Sir The 29th Infantry Division had the honor of being the lead unit during the assault onto Omaha Beach. At the same time they were the first to face the onslaught of the entrenched enemy fire. My question is "What percentage of these initial assault trrops got off their landing craft and made it ashore" ? I can't remember where I heard this-about only 20% even made it off their Higgins boats because of the intense German fire. Is that true? Thank you very much-I'm a history grad student Terry Weaver
