Maj. John R. Harriman, the
operations officer for 3-116th Infantry, provides a situation
brief to Maj. Gen. Childers, the 29th Division Commander (center).
Soldiers from A Co., 3-116th
Infantry, emplace 4 inch x 4 inch wood supports to form the base
of the overhead cover for their defensive fighting positions.
Once the supports are in place,
plywood is then placed over the supports to hold sandbags.
Soldiers from A Co., 3-116th
Infantry, fill sandbags to be placed on top of the plywood supports.
Once the sandbags are in place,
even more dirt is piled on top of the roof. A total of 18 inches
of overhead cover is the minimum to protect soldiers from indirect
fire attacks.
