UNITS OF 1st BATTALION, 116th INFANTRY TO CONDUCT OPEN HOUSE
ROANOKE, Va. - Members of the news media are invited to cover the 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry open house on September 6, 2003. The open house will take place at the Virginia National Guard Armory in Roanoke. The armory is located at 32 Reserve Ave. in Roanoke. The open house, which is open to the public, will take place from 8:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. The open house will include various displays, demonstrations and training activities. The purpose of the open house is to familiarize the public with the Virginia Army National Guard. Soldiers from Roanoke, Pulaski, Bedford, Clifton Forge, Christiansburg, Radford, and Richmond will be participating in this event.
A highlight of the open house will be soldiers rappelling from a Virginia Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Rappelling will take place at the River's Edge sports complex which is a short distance from the National Guard armory on Reserve Ave. The rappelling is scheduled to take place between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Members of the media desiring to be on board the aircraft during the rappelling must contact Lt.
