Command Sergeant Major Samuel L. Cubbage

Command Sergent Major, 29th ID (L)

Command Sergeant Major Samuel L. Cubbage was born in Page County Virginia on July 10, 1947. He was drafted into the United States Marines on March 14, 1966. He was named Honor Graduate and promoted to Private First Class on completion of Basic Training at Paris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of AIT he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division in South Vietnam and served there for thirteen months. On his return from Vietnam he was stationed at Cherry Point, N.C. awaiting discharge, he extended for one year to receive his GED an attend an NBC weapons’ Course.

He enlisted in the VaARNG in February 1976 and assigned to Company C of the 3rd Battalion 116th Infantry as a Gunner on the 81mm Mortar. He attended the Virginia Military NCO Academy in 1976 and received the Outstanding Leadership Award at Graduation. He has held the following assignments since his enlistment: Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant and served as a First Sergeant of an Infantry Company,

Artillery Battery and a Headquarters Company. He served double duty as a Counselor - Instructor for the NCO Academy for (7) years holding various Leadership position. He served as Command Sergeant Major of the 29th Infantry Division (L) on May 1, 1993.
